Plymouth, established by Chrysler Corporation in 1928, was introduced as a lower-priced alternative to compete with Chevrolet and Ford. The brand achieved notable success in the muscle car era with models like the Plymouth Barracuda and the Plymouth Road Runner, which offered high performance at a lower cost. Plymouth was also known for its role in introducing groundbreaking designs, such as the Plymouth Voyager, which was one of the first modern minivans, revolutionizing family transportation in the 1980s. Despite its contributions to the automotive industry and a series of memorable models, declining sales and strategic shifts within Chrysler led to the discontinuation of the Plymouth brand in 2001.
